Where is the best place to go on holidays in Mexico?
Mexico is a large country with a wide variety of terrain. The primary destinations are either on the Caribbean side which includes Cancun, Playa del Carmen & Cozumel, while on the west coast (Pacific side) you have the very famous Cabo San Lucas or Cabo as it is popularly known.

How long does it take to get from the airport to Cancun?
The hotel zone in Cancun goes on for 15 miles!! so it really depends on where you are staying. However the closest part of the zone is less than 15 mins from the airport, with Punta Cancun (the heart of the tourist area), being approx 30 mins from the airport.

How far is Cancun Airport from Play del Carmen?
Getting to Playa del Carmen is very easy and takes approx 45 mins - 1 hour to get to the main town.

Do I need a visa to visit Cancun?
No, Irish citizens do not need a visa to visit Cancún for stays of up to 180 days. However, you'll need a valid passport and may be asked to fill out a Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM) form on arrival.

What is the best time of the year to visit Cancun?
The peak season is December to April, with warm, sunny weather ideal for beach activities. However, for fewer crowds and lower prices, consider visiting during the shoulder season of MayJune when the weather is still but prices and crowds are much less. Officially Jun - Nov is hurricane season. Hurricane Helene hit the area as a Cat 1 storm and passed off with a day or two of heavy rain. Prior to this the last storm was in Oct 2010.

What currency should I bring to Mexico?
The Mexican Peso (MXN) is the local currency, but US Dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas. ATMs are available, and credit cards are commonly accepted at hotels, restaurants, and attractions. Be aware of transaction fees and notify your bank of international travel. (€1.00 = M$22.00 MXN)

There are no mandatory vaccinations for Irish travellers to Cancún, but it’s recommended to be up-to-date on routine vaccines (MMR, DPT). Hepatitis A, typhoid, and rabies are optional based on individual health conditions or travel plans.
